Nell Greco & Pedro Velasco have been performing the finest swing era songs together for decades. No, that’s not right. Rather, they’ve been performing songs from the swing era’s finest decades, together, after discovering a mutual appreciation of creative expression.
Velasco takes inspiration from guitarists like Jim Hall and Gilad Hekselman, playing with a melodic sensitivity that allows loads of interaction and great musical conversations. On the other hand, Greco has been influenced by early jazz singers like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, but also taps into the playful expression of Sheila Jordan and soulfulness of Betty Carter. They perform swing and jazz standards, Chanson Française, but also take inspiration by the likes of Tom Waits, The Dirty Three, Eva Cassidy and Bill Frisell. They play the music they love, whether original or covered, and are ever in flux.
