DOM PIPKIN’S ALL-STAR NEW ORLEANS REVIEW WITH DJ LIL'KOKO
Dom Pipkin leads his consummately talented ensemble with piano and voice, brazing a trail though both well-known and obscure New Orleans jazz, blues, RnB and funk. Pipkin’s long-standing association with all things New Orleans fits perfectly with DJ Lil’ Koko, equally steeped in the NOLA tradition. Pipkin and Koko ran some of the best New Orleans nights in town, including the legendary “Music Shop” on Denmark Street and the Mardi Gras residency at Ronnie Scott’s. Long sets deep into the night take in the sounds of Jon Cleary, Smiley Lewis, Professor Longhair, Huey “Piano” Smith and beyond, mixed with Pipkin’s own distinctive songwriting.
With Dom on the road with Morcheeba tonight we feature Arthur Lea’s Bootlegs. Hammering honky tonks since his hands could reach the keys, Arthur Lea sings eclectic rhythm n blues with southern soul. Lewisham schooled, Royal Academy of Music trained, he has played everywhere from Ronnie Scott’s to the Olympic Stadium, working with everyone from Kate Tempest to Kylie Minogue. He performs solo, with his band Bootleg Brass, and many others: The Coalminers, Paragon, Tongue Fu, to name a few. He has recorded in studios from Nashville to Berlin, and produced several albums of original music. Living in London, he listens and learns whether making music in concert halls, care homes, or cocktail speakeasies.
